Executive Director’s Letter February 12, 2019

What is it called when it’s a snow day, but it’s not snowing outside?

The past two days of rain and ice have put some folks into suspended animation. Although not everyone has the luxury of relaxing indoors during moments like this, I hope some of you have been able to fill your downtime with good books, classic films, delicious foods, close friends, and deep reflection.

Have you read the recent New York Times article about the couple sponsoring Everyman Theatre’s current production, “Everything is Wonderful?” Sandy and Mark Laken lost their 20-year-old son to a car accident and deeply resonated with the subject matter of the play. Their story is one that shows the transformative power of art and the ways in which it can articulate loss and further healing.

There has been a terrific response to Kibibi Ajanku’s Third Friday Conversations: Black History Edition this Friday, February 15. Be sure to send in your RSVP to join us for drinks, light fare, and compelling conversation!

It’s Valentine’s week, and GBCA sends this love note out to the artists and culture workers throughout the Baltimore region. You give us hope, make us think, encourage us to live in communion with one another, and demonstrate a fierce belief in the people of Baltimore. The light you shine, even on the most challenging times and issues, inspire us. Sending Valentine’s wishes and gratitude for all you do for the world.
