Program (PT) Position: Program Assistant – Baker Artist Portfolios
Position Overview
The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) is seeking a proactive, creative, responsive, personable, and detail-oriented Program Assistant to support the Baker Artist Portfolios program. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in arts administration, communications, and individual artist support.
Working closely with the Baker Artist Portfolios Manager, in partnership with a small, collaborative team, the Program Assistant will take responsibility for some of the day-to-day operations of the Baker Artist Portfolios and assist with content creation, community engagement, and digital outreach. This is a dynamic position with real potential for professional growth and community impact.
Reports to: Baker Artist Portfolios Manager
Key Responsibilities
● Serve as a point of contact for artists using the Baker platform, offering technical assistance and programmatic support
● Support the Program Manager with ongoing artist engagement and outreach and juror coordination
● Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining documents and resources for artists building Baker Artist Portfolios
● Assist in planning and executing program events, including info sessions, exhibitions, performances, showcases, an annual awards celebration, and periodic social gatherings of Baker Artists
● Support GBCA marketing team’s ongoing promotion of Baker Artists and the Baker Artist Portfolios program by identifying and gathering content to be included in GBCA and Baker program newsletters and/or posted on GBCA’s Culture Fly and social media accounts
● Help guide improvements to the user experience on bakerartist.org
● Support the creation of promotional materials and execution of marketing campaigns across print and digital platforms
Qualifications
● Interest or background in the arts, particularly in artist advocacy and engagement ● Commitment to the area’s diverse cultural community
● A proactive, self-directed work style and collaborative, communicative spirit, with an enthusiasm for learning new things and adaptability to keep sight of priorities in a shifting landscape
● Clear written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to draft event descriptions, promotional copy, instructions, and other correspondences
● Strong attention to detail and accuracy
● The ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, anticipate needs, manage and meet multiple deadlines, and problem-solve
● Strong computer skills, specifically comfort with Google Workspace and MS Office products-- experience with web content platforms is a plus
● Basic design and content creation ability (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) ● Familiarity with social media platforms, trends, and best practices
● Ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders, including program participants, artists, members, and community partners with diplomacy and discretion.

GBCA promotes, convenes, and leverages resources for the Baltimore region’s extraordinary arts, culture, history, heritage and humanities organizations as well as attractions and individual artists who are all strengthened by working together. Conceived in 1997 and incorporated in 2001, GBCA is a membership and service organization for artists and organizations in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard counties in Maryland.
Baker Artist Portfolios & Baker Artist Awards
The Baker Artist Portfolios and associated awards were established by the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund and are a program of GBCA. Created to support artists and promote Greater Baltimore as a strong creative community, the online portfolios are open to artists working in all disciplines who live and work in Baltimore City and its five surrounding counties. The portfolios expose area artists' work to regional, national, and international audiences.
Artists who create a Baker Artist Portfolio are automatically eligible for one of six Baker Artist Awards, which include significant monetary prizes, showcase, promotion, and exhibition opportunities, like the biennial Baker Artist Awards Exhibit at the Baltimore Museum of Art. These prizes are awarded to artists who exemplify a mastery of craft, depth of artistic exploration, and a unique and compelling vision.

Additional Information
This position is primarily remote with semi-regular, in-person meetings in Baltimore City and program events throughout Greater Baltimore. Remote work consists of both synchronous and asynchronous tasks, and program events may fall outside of a 9am-5pm workday. Access to a stable internet connection is needed to fulfill the duties of this position.

Salary: $24 / hr; 15 hours per week
