For me, one of the most amazing aspects of the Baker Artist Portfolios has always been that it is open to any artist in the region who chooses to create a portfolio. In doing so, these artists find themselves as part of a community of fellow makers. We often hear stories of amazing collaborations that have been sprung from artists who found each other on the Baker site, not to mention its use by curators, collectors and art lovers who use the site to gain an understanding of the incredible scope of artists and artwork that the Baltimore region has to offer.
Every artist on the Baker site chooses to be there, and any artist who chooses is welcome to create a portfolio. This year, as part of our exciting programming celebrating 10 years of excellence, we decided to bring this diplomatic aspect of the site into real, physical space.
Any artist with an active portfolio was invited to contribute one piece of work to a brand new exhibition idea-- Baker OFF THE WEB.
This exciting exhibition will open WEDNESDAY, November 14th at the Peale Center-- the oldest building in America built to be a museum!
When Rembrandt Peale opened his museum on Holliday Street in 1814, he envisioned it as a place to be exposed to new ideas, new art, and like-minded thinkers.
We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Wedneday, November 14th, from 6pm-9pm, When the oldest museum in America hosts the newest art in Baltimore!
