While we all grapple with the fact that things probably won’t ever return to the old normal, Baltimore’s Primary and Mayoral Elections are upon us. In the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens must still focus on the future.
How will the Mayor tackle our new and historic challenges, inequities, and hardships? What do we want Baltimore to be as we move through and beyond this very disquieting and disruptive time?
To help find out where candidates stand, Citizen Artist Baltimore (CAB), a broad-based, nonpartisan get-out-the-vote and arts advocacy coalition, has been hard at work. CAB has contacted the candidates with a questionnaire to document their positions on arts and culture issues, and to encourage support for a sector in crisis. A sector that is critical to the vitality of Baltimore's identity and economy.
You and thousands of arts supporters and voters will be able to track answers from the candidates on the CAB website. And now, one of the most important things you can do is to make sure you are registered and to vote. From our partners at Baltimore Votes, we are just weeks away from the June 2 Primary and Mayoral Election. Ballots were sent out to all active registered voters last week and should be arriving in mailboxes across the city in the next few days. If you moved recently, haven't voted for a while, or are just curious, you can track your ballot on the State Board of Elections website. Note that there will be very limited in-person voting options available.
Additionally, please don't forget to register for our Virtual Theatre Round Robin in partnership with the Baltimore League of Theatres. This special meeting will give members of the Baltimore theatre community a chance to catch up and share. Since we can't be in the same physical space together, we'll have each organization introduce themselves and their staff, share their current status, and talk about how they are thinking about the future.
