RFP Belair-Edison Mosaic Artist Fellowship

RFP Mosaic Artist Fellowship

Belair-Edison Neighborhoods, Inc. (BENI) is seeking proposals for 5 fellows to contribute to a community mosaic art project in the neighborhood of Belair-Edison.

For this project, BENI would like to work with 5 fellows to create and install mosaic artwork on 17 commercial sized cement planters that will set along the commercial corridor of Belair Road in the Belair-Edison community. Applicants must also have some experience teaching community art workshops or community art residencies. Each artist will have access to design/work space; studio time to be coordinated by a BENI staff member. In addition, all materials will be provided by BENI.

All interested artists must submit a proof of Mosaic designs to be applied to the cement planters (dimensions to be provided upon selection). We are requesting that each proposal include three designs (themes can be related or separate). While the artist is responsible for the completion of all three planters, at least one of the three planters will be completed with the assistance of neighborhood residents at weekly community workshops. Workshops will happen twice a week, Tuesdays (5-8:30pm) and Thursdays (11-2:30pm), for duration of 8-10 weeks. This is a community focused project and therefore submitted designs should in some way reflect the community of Belair-Edison. Additionally, designs completed with residents should take into account their ability as novice artists.

Please complete the attached cover page, along with 3-4 digital mock –ups (8.5 x 11 jpg no larger than 2 MB), or if mailing design, 8.5 x 11 hard copies, and submit no later than Monday, February 22nd to:

Christina Delgado at [email protected]

Or by mail to:

Belair-Edison Neighborhoods, Inc.

3412 Belair Road

Baltimore, MD 21213

Artists will be selected and announced on Tuesday, March 1st (weather permitting) and the fellowship will take place April through the beginning of June, 2016. Selected artists will be expected to attend an introductory community meeting in late March with a full proof rendering of all 3 designs, 11x17 in size.

Compensation: $1,000.00 per fellow (3 planters), $350 each additional planter (2 total). More about the mosaic art project:
