Chesapeake Shakespeare Company seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company seeks a full time, experienced Director of Marketing and Communications, directing the marketing, box office and public relations for the theatre. The Director creates, implements, and oversees the public face of Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, directs its marketing and sales efforts, and is a significant member of the senior staff. The DOMC is responsible for thoughtful and detailed data analysis to increase sales. Together with the Marketing Manager, the DOMC creates a marketing plan and budget and supervises its implementation. The DOMC oversees the box office and audience services department.

The position reports to both the Managing Director and the Artistic Director and leads a department of two marketing staff and three box office/audience services staff.

MARKETING

  • Develop and execute innovative, data-driven audience development strategies that focus on increasing patron loyalty, reaching new audiences, and increasing audience diversity.
  • Develop reporting analytics to generate key sales
  • Analyze sales data, report trends, and make recommendations to increase ROI
  • Strategize and facilitate dynamic pricing initiatives and inventory management
  • Plan and manage marketing budget

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Research, write/record, distribute, pitch, and schedule press releases, story ideas, and photo opportunities on a variety of programs and activities to media outlets, including print, visual, audio, and internet-based.
  • Augmenting CSC social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter together with the Marketing Manager
  • Attend a variety of special events: opening night, press nights, community events, pre- and post-show discussions, etc.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Initiate and manage partnerships with other community organizations
  • Create and coordinate special events to accompany shows
  • Represent CSC at community and networking events; research community and networking events and opportunities for other staff members.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for planning, budgeting and maintaining communications and marketing campaigns for each season in conjunction with Marketing Manager and the Finance Manager
  • Work with Staff and Board of Directors on all event planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Develop and supervise department budget;
  • Along with other staff members, perform general administrative tasks for the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Performing arts management experience required.Extensive business management experience considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities and materials across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis
  • Demonstrated experience making presentations to public groups
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Experience managing a team of people
  • Understanding of and passion for Chesapeake Shakespeare’s mission
  • Great communication skills, both written and oral
  • A proven ability to meet deadlines and to carry out a concept from start to completion, individually and as a manager
  • A talent for juggling multiple creative and administrative projects and switching easily between decisions for each
  • A sense of humor
  • Fluidity with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, MailChimp, the major social media platforms, as well as a basic understanding of ticketing systems.PatronManager a plus.

ABOUT CSC

The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is a seventeen year-old professional classical theatre company that believes that Shakespeare is for everyone. With a $2 million annual budget, a staff of fifteen, a season of eight productions (including two for schools), fast-developing community partnerships, and a robust education program, there’s a lot to tell people about, especially as CSC begins work on a new strategic plan. CSC performs in its beautiful Downtown Baltimore theatre and, in the summer, outdoors in Ellicott City.

Benefits include health insurance and short and long-term disability insurance.
