Single Carrot Theatre seeks Executive Director

Single Carrot Theatre (SCT), Baltimore’s premier alternative theatre company, creates socially relevant theatre as a form of civic engagement in Baltimore by producing vibrant, experiential performances in traditional and non-traditional theatre venues; building cross-sector partnerships; and facilitating empowering education programs. This includes three productions annually, one night events, a robust education program, and a variety of fundraising and community engagement events. Having adopted its new mission in December 2018 and let go of its performance space to become a site specific, more community-minded theatre company, Single Carrot Theatre is in a unique position in Baltimore to hone its path towards organizational growth through bold artistic and organizational choices focused on the city and its residents. The Executive Director will be responsible for developing and executing a strategy to realize the new mission of Single Carrot Theatre in partnership with the Artistic Director.

The Executive Director will manage all aspects of the organization’s business and administrative operations, including marketing / communications, finance, development, and partnerships. SCT has a small staff (4 artistic & program staff (1 full-time, 3 part-time) and 2 full-time administrative staff). An ensemble of artists also work to support the company’s mission.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who has both organizational vision and the skills to strategically execute that vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with Board and Artistic Director to create, execute, and assess strategies and action plans to support organizational growth, stability, and mission fulfillment
  • Build and lead SCT’s institutional development and fundraising strategies. (With execution support from a FT-Development/Marketing Manager and program staff.)
  • With assistance from the board, pursue existing and new sources of income by:
  • Developing and coordinating fundraising events
  • Further developing and coordinating the annual giving program, including sponsorships and private donations
  • Developing and managing a portfolio of grants.
  • Work with Community Partnership Committee, ensemble, staff and board to build and execute plan for embodying and actualizing equity, diversity, and inclusion at every level of SCT
  • Develop and oversee effective multi-channel marketing and media relations campaigns, and work with programming to realize successful audience and community engagement. (With execution support from a FT-Development/Marketing Manager and program staff)
  • Bottom line responsibility for setting and meeting marketing, grant, and development deadlines
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the organization, including
    • Managing and directing the duties of supporting staff and independent contractors
    • Budgeting and financial planning, tracking, and reporting
    • Working with PT-contracted accountant to assure that books are accurate and updated, managing financial audit, communicating with Board Treasurer on relevant financial matters
    • Engagement with program partners and board committees
    • Effectively assess and execute programmatic promotion throughout the year
  • Steer and support board development and governance. (In partnership with Board President)

Key Qualifications:

  • A passion for community-engaged, risk-taking theatre
  • 5 years of non-profit or arts management experience
  • A demonstrated track record of success with institutional development and donor engagement
  • Experience in grant writing
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and a fluency in marketing and social media
  • Experience promoting and marketing events and mission-driven messaging
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial statements and budget management
  • Desired Experience/Skills:
  • Experience working in a start-up or grassroots environment
  • Masters degree in Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, or other similar area of study or commensurate experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse community stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite is a must and familiarity with QuickBooks and PatronManager or other CRM platform is preferred.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: $46,000 - $53,000
