Baltimore National Heritage Area Interpretation and Outreach Manager

The Interpretation and Outreach Manager (IOM) is the Baltimore National Heritage Area’s (BNHA) main liaison to its cultural and heritage partners. The IOM works with these partners and BNHA staff to plan, create, and execute programs and events that engage visitors, residents and Baltimore City Public School students in the primary interpretive themes stated in the Baltimore National Heritage Area 2012 Comprehensive Management Plan. The IOM also manages BNHA’s Urban Ranger Program and ensures that the best and most reliable individuals, properly trained to fulfill the BNHA mission, staff walking tours and museum support assignments. A successful IOM candidate will demonstrate a love for all Baltimore history and culture, and a desire to amplify the many different voices that make up our city’s complex personality. A successful IOM candidate will also continue to self-educate on the many underrepresented aspects of that history and culture.

Responsibilities:
• Work with Executive Director to develop programs and events that benefit the heritage area mission
• Manage walking tour operations, interpretive trainings, and urban ranger staff retention
• Produce schedules for walking tours and museum support assignments
• Communicate frequently with urban rangers and museums to ensure mutual satisfaction with assignments
• Assign responsibilities to the staff and urban rangers for special events
• Primary contact for Greater Baltimore History Alliance, fulfilling assignments as directed in the MOU
• Primary contact for Heritage Placemaking Grant program
• Coordinate community grant workshops and meetings with heritage neighborhoods
• Develop interpretation resources for partners and urban ranger program
• Work with BNHA staff and MARCOM consultant to coordinate info for upcoming actions and events
• Review grant proposals as a member of the review committee, as set by the BNHA Grants Administrator

Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal skill and collaborative spirit
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Supervisory experience preferred, but not required
• Knowledge of basic interpretation best practices
• Some knowledge of museum administration
• Familiar with Baltimore City and the communities within the heritage area boundary
• Ability to use Constant Contact, Social Media (FB and Twitter)
• Ability to use or learn databases – BNHA uses Donor Perfect

Education: Degree preferred, but not required with commensurate experience
• Full-time position (40) hours weekly; Flexible schedule
• Benefits: medical/dental/vision/life and AD&D, disability Insurances.

• Annual salary commensurate with experience: Range $46,000 - $48,000
