The silence is about to be broken. With a tentative agreement in place, the musicians of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will be performing this week. "I'm thrilled that an agreement has been reached," BSO music director Marin Alsop said in a statement announcing the new contract, "and that we will have our musicians back on stage to open our 104th season beginning on Friday night." The new contract between the musicians’ union and management goes through September 7, 2020 during which time both have pledged not to strike or have a lockout. Assumably, that leaves more time for further negotiation. Support your symphony and its musicians by attending a performance at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall sometime soon! Maryland State Arts Council is hosting a series of Regional Arts Institutes. These convenings are part of MSAC’s professional development series for all arts constituents (independent artists, arts organizations/programs, County Arts Councils, A&E Districts, etc.). Partners include MD State Department of Education, Maryland Citizens for the Arts, Arts Education in Maryland Schools Alliance, Maryland Nonprofits, and Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. This is an excellent opportunity to get up-to-date information on their priorities for funding, artist awards, and the work of MSAC’s partners. You can find further information including dates, locations, and schedules on the MSAC website.
Due to technical difficulties, we are coming to you a day late, but as always, with relevant information you can use now.
Best,
Jeannie
