Executive Director's Letter - 3/5/24

Whew, I don’t know about you but the GBCA team is still on cloud nine from last week’s event, where we honored Kevin Brown with the inaugural Cultural Innovator Award. Follow this link to watch Kevin’s video interview.

GBCA has lots more planned in the way of educational and celebratory events. Coming up this Sunday, we’ll be at the Baltimore Museum of Art for An Afternoon of Artistic Excellence. Organized by our beloved Barbara Grubs and Diana Harris, the new Executive Director of Contemporary Arts (congratulations Diana!), this annual event features Baker Artist Award recipients from the performing arts. Another opportunity to celebrate the life of Carl Grubbs, this year’s line up includes Wendel Patrick, Joyce Scott, Lafayette Gilchrist, Todd Marcus, Vincent Thomas, Bashi Rose, Cjay Phillip, Letitia Vansant, and Peter Minkler. You can RSVP here.

Next Monday, March 11 from 1-3pm join the Baltimore Informal Educator’s Roundtable (BIER), and GBCA members Arts Every Day, Baltimore Center Stage, and The Lyric Baltimore, for an Arts and Cultural Partners Convening. This event aims to bring together Baltimore’s arts education community to connect and collectively work towards the goal of increasing access to the arts for young people across Baltimore City. During the event, participants will review the results of the Arts and Cultural Partner Landscape Survey sent earlier this year and engage in breakout sessions to explore areas of interest. Click here for more information and to RSVP.

Are you working to increase your accessibility skills? Please save the date for our upcoming virtual training on alternative text, an online accessibility practice for artists, led by Dr. Cheryl Fogle-Hatch, founder of MuseumSenses. This session will take place over Zoom on Wednesday, March 27 at 12pm. Not sure about what Alt text is or what it’s for? Click here for an introduction.

Stick with us, it’s going to be a great month and we’ll be celebrating women’s history!
