Executive Director’s Letter: May 29th 2020

The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA)
and the William G. Baker Jr. Memorial Fund are thrilled to announce the 2020 Baker Artist Awardees.
Congratulations to the 2020 Mary Sawyers Baker Prize awardees: Laura Amussen (Visual Arts),
Ami Dang (Music), Ryan Johnson (Performance), Matthew Porterfield (Film/ Video), and Jung Yun (Literary Arts). Susan Waters-Eller (Visual Arts) was selected to receive the 2020 Mary Sawyers Imboden Prize of $40,000—the largest art prize in the region.

Connie Imboden, President of the William G. Baker Jr. Memorial Fund, says Waters-
Evans’ work “… often walks the fine line between the sublime and grotesque, as she
transmutes universal themes and ideas through her singularly unique vision of the
world. Be sure to follow the links to their portfolios to explore the work of these
accomplished artists.

At times like these when many of us are struggling, GBCA is honored to recognize
artists who are making important contributions to our world. As of this season, the
Baker Artist Awards has passed the $1 million mark in the amount given to over 100
artists in the Baltimore region. The list is impressive as is the range of work
represented on the site.

The Baker Artist Portfolios were created to support artists and promote Greater
Baltimore as a strong creative community. The online portfolios are open to artists
working in all disciplines that live and work in Baltimore City and its five
surrounding counties. The portfolios expose area artists' work to regional, national
and international audiences. The site has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of
art lovers, critics, gallery owners, academics, and leaders in creative business in
nearly every country around the globe.

Be peaceful,

Jeannie
