Executive Director’s Letter December 23, 2019

Now that the holiday season is upon us, it’s time to revel in the many wonders of your own community. While you celebrate with family and friends, remember the wealth of museums, theatres, and other cultural organizations and events you are blessed with in your own backyard. When you’re ready to stir from family gatherings or find some time to yourself, The Walters Arts Museum, The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Great Blacks in Wax Museum, The Maryland Historical Society, The Jewish Museum of Maryland, The Baltimore Museum of Industry, The American Visionary Arts Museum, The Lilly Carrol Museum, The Benjamin Banneker Museum, and The Amaranthine Museum are all nearby and waiting to share their wondrous collections.

Looking for something else? Check out the many performances, events, and organizations you can find on the Culture Fly calendar. Take some time to enjoy the many cultural treasures in the City and region.

A quiet is settling in as the City prepares for the holidays. It feels like the relentless chain of e-mails is slowing, the phones are quieting down, and the rush hour honking is subsiding. If you aren’t bustling to travel, shop, or visit, it’s a gift to enjoy the relative stillness.

As I do the same, I am glad for the mild temperatures because there are too many people who don’t have a place to go, or regular meals—not only during the holiday season but every day. As you think about the gifts you have, and those you can give - I hope you will remember with a contribution to the many wonderful organizations that help men, women, and children through their most desperate times.

Peace,

Jeannie

P.S. As the year closes, I hope you will also remember how important your support is to the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. We consistently punch above our weight and fight ferociously for artists and cultural organizations, who in turn create stronger communities and more healthy places to live.
