Executive Director Letter July 24, 2018

It was another successful, if very wet, Artscape this past weekend in Baltimore. Thank you to all of our GBCA staff and volunteers, our partners at Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA), and the many of you who stopped by the booth to say hello. For those who are new to this newsletter and the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, welcome! Arts and culture create the kinds of communities that we all want to live in. Here at GBCA, we help make sure that artists, museums, theatres, and all types of cultural organizations in our region thrive.

The results of the Artscape cultural basket of cheer raffle are in! Congratulations to 5340299 and 5340184 who are taking home many treasures including season tickets, experiences, and items all donated by GBCA members whose generosity is deeply appreciated.

Another amazing result is that MCA registered 30 people to vote! Is there a better way to demonstrate your enthusiasm and commitment to democracy than making sure that you are ready to stand in the voting booth this November? I think not! Let’s keep up the momentum and enthusiasm for engaging in the democratic process.

Speaking of engaging, GBCA is now accepting applications from those interested in being a 2019 Urban Arts Leadership host organizations. If your organization would like to bring great talent to your staff and deepen the equity and inclusion of your workplace, check out the application here. Emerging leaders from backgrounds not well represented in area cultural staff, particularly those of color, engage in four months of training followed by a six-month leadership placement with a host organization.

GBCA is fortunate to have recently hired two members of the 2018 UAL cohort. Renz Balagtas joined us full-time in July as Program Assistant and Alexis Dixon will be joining us as Executive Assistant in August. Don’t miss out on the chance to work with talented individuals as they launch their careers in the cultural sector.

Better keep out your umbrellas and galoshes,

Jeannie

P.S. Attention all visual and literary artists! This is the last week to submit your applications to the Rubys Artists Grants Program. Don’t miss this great opportunity.
