Executive Director’s Letter March 27, 2018

The young organizers and speakers at last Saturday’s March for Life were an inspirational reminder that the U.S. government belongs to we, the people. Together, it is possible to inspire action and work to change the status quo. It is also an important reminder to those of us who work in cultural organizations, who are artists and arts patrons, that our voices can be powerful. We should speak, not simply out of self-interest for our work, but because what we do is critical in addressing social and political issues in our communities and the country.

Over the next few months, and leading up to the primary election, GBCA and our partners will help register voters and support efforts to get those voters to the polls, regardless of their party affiliation. We hope you will join us in this work by registering, voting, and being sure that your friends and family do the same.

Who couldn’t use a little financial help? On April 18, GBCA is hosting a Brown Bag workshop with Guidewell Financial Solutions (GFS). GFS is a fully accredited nonprofit credit counseling provider with an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. They have been a trusted community business since 1966, and provide an initial credit counseling session free-of-charge. Send your staff, or come yourself, for this practical look at how to manage real-life money issues.

What’s the latest on equity and inclusion at GBCA? Mark your calendar for the Baltimore-DC Arts Mixer, presented in partnership with Arts Administrators of Color DMV and hosted by the Urban Arts Leadership Program. This mixer will take place on April 13, from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Motor House. Click here for information!

Best,
Jeannie
