Citizen Artist Baltimore!

CITIZEN ARTIST BALTIMORE IS A CALL TO ACTION FOR INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS, INSTITUTIONS, AND FOUNDATIONS TO WORK TOGETHER TO ADVANCE INCLUSION OF THE ARTS, CULTURE AND HUMANITIES AS AN ISSUE OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE IN THE APRIL 2016 PRIMARY MAYORAL ELECTION AND BEYOND.

MISSION

Citizen Artist Baltimore is a non-partisan initiative aimed at raising awareness within and around Baltimore’s creative community through coalition building and community engagement. Recognizing the critical role of the arts, culture, design and humanities in Baltimore, the Citizen Artist initiative strives to:

  1. Ensure that every citizen of Baltimore has access to the arts, culture and humanities.
  2. Engage artists, designers, performers and all other cultural producers and patrons in civic action including voter registration, voting and education including issues pertinent to this constituency.

Through a series of public listening sessions with the cultural community, Citizen Artist Baltimore will identify priority issues within Baltimore and advance these issues to 2016 mayoral candidates for comment. The group is also working to organize a mid-March public forum in which the candidates will field questions, resulting in a better-informed populace, and demonstrating the viability of the cultural community as a formidable constituency in Baltimore.

Additionally, Citizen Artist aims to raise awareness of key dates and actions (voter registration deadlines, polling location, etc.) leading up to the April 2016 Primaries through highlighting existing resources and organizations doing this work.
