Executive Director's Letter
August 25, 2015

Amid all the back to school frenzy, are your last minute deadlines piling up? For example, if you are a procrastinating artist, you have just a few days left to meet the Light City application deadline on August 28th.

This week, you can take advantage of a brown bag session to learn more about the upcoming 2017 Maryland State Arts Council General Operating Support grant applications. (Yes, that means you need to apply soon for support in 2017.) GBCA will also be on hand to talk about other funding opportunities and resources.

Thomas Dolbly, described as the Zelig of Synthpop, and Johns Hopkins University Professor of the Arts, recently joined the Station North Arts and Entertainment DistrictBoard of Directors. You can hear this 80’s sensation and brilliant addition to the Hopkins Faculty talk about the merging of technology and the arts, the future of the JHU Film and Media Program, as well as his philosophy on entrepreneurship, technology, society and life. The Tech Breakfast will take place on September 21st, and tickets are available at a discount if you sign up by the end of this week.

I recently learned that staff at non-profit cultural organizations are eligible to apply forprofessional development scholarships of up to $1,5000 through Visit Baltimore. September 16 is the deadline for this program, which is designed to strengthen organizations that bring tourists to Baltimore. Don’t miss out!

The Baker Artist Awards exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art will run from September 16 to November 15. With twelve awardees from both the 2014 and 2015seasons, this blockbuster Baker show is taking over the entire Thalheimer Gallery. Watch for more details in the coming days.
