Are you ready for Father’s Day?

Executive Director's Letter
June 16, 2015

Are you ready for Father’s Day? There are lots of great ways to celebrate with GBCA members. How about Daddy and Me Tea-Paint with Me on Sunday at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center? The National Orchestral Institute has several performances at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center this weekend, including Brahms Second Symphony. Looking for free events? Remember brunch and a nice stroll through The Walters Art Museum or the Baltimore Museum of Art are good options to explore. For more ideas about how to spend time celebrating Dad, check out the Culture Fly.

Artscape is just around the corner and GBCA will again be presenting its Cultural Tent. This is a great time for organizations to renew or begin a new membership so you don’t miss out on this opportunity to be seen by the hundreds of thousands of visitors at the largest free arts festival in the country. GBCA is using this occasion to showcase its members with signage, promotions, performances, readings, demonstrations, etc. There will be a small stage for performances, and room for brochures and promotional materials to give your organization more visibility. And for you Artscape attendees, visit the GBCA tent to enter to win a "Basket of Cultural Cheer" including tickets, passes and gift items from member organizations.

This past weekend I attended the Americans for the Arts' conference in Chicago where many of the discussions focused on diversity and inclusion. There were so many opportunities for learning and for sharing the amazing and difficult work that is happening in Baltimore. The conference closed with a brilliant conversation between two MacArthur Fellows—Physicist and potter, Hideo Mabuchi and Baltimore’s own Liz Lerman.

Stay cool,
Jeannie
