Executive Director's Letter
January 6, 2015
After quietly celebrating Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance’s (GBCA) 13th birthday on December 17, I too passed a milestone. January 1 was my third anniversary at GBCA and it seems like just yesterday I came on board with both enthusiasm and deep respect for the Baltimore region’s cultural community. Both have continued to increase.
The last three years have been energetic! In 2012, the Board of Directors was poised to support a continuation and expansion that would build on the legacy of founding director Nancy Haragan. In the past three years, we have reinvigorated, re-imagined, and re-launched GBCA’s online calendar—Culture Fly—as a preeminent tool to market cultural events. We have turned our sights toward issues of equity, inclusion, and professional development by launching the Urban Arts Leadership Program, created the new Rubys Artists Grants Program with the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, and we continue to refine the Baker Artists Awards. Now under the leadership of Leslie Shepard, the GBCA Board is an incredible brain trust for the entire cultural community.
I am pleased to announce our newest members of the GBCA Board of Directors:
Deborah Bedwell, Chair, National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts
Jeff Buchheit, Executive Director, Baltimore National Heritage Area
Patricia Egan, Co-founder, Cool Spring Analytics
Deana Haggag, Executive Director, The Contemporary
Samuel Hoi, President, Maryland Institute College of Art
Paul Meecham, President and CEO, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
Also, Julia Marciari-Alexander, Executive Director of The Walters Art Museum has assumed the role of Vice President from outgoing and beloved Board member Doreen Bolger.
With a team like this, it’s sure to be an amazing 2015!
Happy New Year,
