Rubys Grantee Carl Grubbs Performing at 2014 John Coltrane Celebration

GBCA is pleasaed to share the news that Carl Grubbs, 2014 Rubys grantee in performing arts, will be headlining the annual John Coltrane Celebration at the Ward Center for the Arts at St. Paul's School. Presented by Contemporary Arts, Inc., the concert will feature jazz saxophonist Carl Grubbs and his special guest, saxophonist and international recording artist, Jaleel Shaw.

Jaleel is an alto/soprano saxophonist and bandleader; a member of the Roy Haynes Quartet and Tom Harrell’s “Colors of a Dream”. He has performed with Christian McBride, Jason Moran, the Mingus Big Band, Stefon Harris, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea, Dave Holland and Jimmy Cobb and was listed in Jazz Times Magazine’s 2011 Readers Poll for Alto Saxophonist of the Year.

Carl and Jaleel will be accompanied by Eric Byrd on piano, Blake Meister on bass and John Lamkin III on drums; musicians with a reputation for excellence!
