Reporting to the Audience Development & Production Coordinator, the Stage Manager is the primary point of contact for artists at all Subscription and Discovery Series concerts. No two performances are alike; therefore, the Stage Manager must have professionalism, poise and a knowledge of production protocol. The ability to read sheet music is a plus. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, artist hospitality, coordinating the start of concerts in coordination with Front of House staff, executing stage changes during the performance, and escorting artists throughout the building. The Stage Manager works to ensure each artist has a positive experience with Shriver Hall Concert Series and are best supported to deliver successful performances.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrive at the venue 90 minutes before the artists are scheduled to arrive to inspect and prep the backstage area and stage; remain through the artist’s departure and storage of materials is completed.
- Set up and breakdown dressing rooms and backstage area.
- Coordinate arrivals and departures of artists, pre-concert speakers, and instrumental technicians.
- Respond to all artists’ needs and requests; coordinate their hospitality.
- Set stage; spike locations when there are stage changes.
- Ensure audio equipment is in place for pre-concert speakers and musicians, as applicable.
- Work with hall tech to test all audio equipment prior to the performance and make any necessary adjustments to lighting pre-sets.
- Escort the artist to and from the hall, having given them 5-minute and 10-minute warnings prior to the performance.
- Give the pre-concert announcement.
- Coordinate opening of the house and concert and second half starts with Front of House Manager.
- Run light pre-sets during the performance.
- Cue late seating during the performance.
- Execute stage changes for the performance, including opening the stage door out of view for artists’ stage entrances and exits.
- Complete reports for each concert, documenting any issues that emerged and supplies that need restocking.
- Handle unexpected situations or emergencies with poise and sensitivity.
- Identify problems and strive to fix them quickly.
- Be diligent and up to date on SHCS emergency procedures.
- Represent SHCS positively and best of your ability.
- Support SHCS’s goals of becoming an more inclusive and welcoming organization.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as stage manager and/or concert production preferred.
- Ability to read sheet music preferred.
- Experience working with professional artists.
- Works well independently and with others.
- Knowledge of fire code and ADA laws.
- Personal integrity with a sense of humor.
