The Baltimore Museum of Art seeks a full-time, experienced Director of Annual Giving to lead their Annual Giving team. The ideal candidate will be a high-performing individual with experience in a fast-paced environment and will have experience in focused strategizing, designing, and executing communications and benefits for members and donors to the museum, with a strong focus on direct cultivation and solicitation of individual donors and members at all levels.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is a world class, internationally recognized museum, recently ranked by the Washington Post as one of the top 20 museums in the United States. As a highly visible representative of the museum to the public, the Director of Annual Giving must have extensive knowledge of museum advancement operations and systems, poise, and the ability to manage a wide array of unique relationships necessary to be successful in a high-profile institution. This position collaborates with colleagues in the Advancement Department and across the institution including the senior leadership team.
This full-time, exempt position reports to the Senior Director of Advancement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and execute an annual fund strategy that increases donor participation, dollars raised and creates pathways to BMA Council and other Major Giving
- Manage a small team of full-time staff to support achievement of annual fundraising goals
- Support the execution of a new membership structure that aligns with the museum's mission and audience
- Create prospect pipeline, moves management system, and maintain an active awareness of prospect pool at various stages of identification, cultivation and solicitation
- Develop and refine segmentation methods for unrated donors, Major Giving prospects, and planned giving opportunities
- Manage and analyze donor data to drive decision-making and improve fundraising results
- Collaborate with advancement staff and key staff members in curatorial, education, and marketing to develop successful donor strategies
- Lead the logistics planning and day-of event management for BMA Council events, Affiliate Group events, and other advancement events as needed
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with donors through personal visits and secure appointments for senior leadership when appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-year undergraduate degree or professional experience equivalent
- 7+ years progressively responsible experience in fundraising
- 5+ years of staff supervision/leading a department
- Integral knowledge and involvement with a donor/contact management system (i.e. Blackbaud or similar)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Adept at developing strong relationships
- Strong knowledge of MS Office suite
- Exceptional time management, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Willingness to go the extra mile and support colleagues across the institution
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, poise, and customer service skills
