Baltimore Rock Opera Society seeks Stage Manager Fellow for Why Not To Build A Computer That Loves

Why Not to Build a Computer That Loves is a sci-fi odyssey tragicomedy following a love-sick robot as they learn the true meaning of life... and accidentally destroy the universe along the way. Baltimore Rock Opera seeks multiple production positions for the show, including Stage Manager Fellow.

Production will begin Late January/Early February and the show will run Late May to Early June.

The Stage Manager is the primary point of communication for the cast and musicians, and is in charge of scheduling and managing them for the production. This includes creating and carrying out a rehearsal plan, managing cast and crew during tech and show dates, and calling cues with the technical team. SM and ASM positions are hard to fill in community theater, and tough jobs to do well. Not only do we need these fine folks to make our shows run, our community needs more capable stage managers. To make this happen, we’re launching the BROS Stage Management Fellowship, a professional-development program to support early-career stage managers with financial and educational resources as they manage a BROS production. BROS Stage Management Fellows will receive a $2000 Stipend, and will meet with 3 different mentors from area professional theaters as they plan and execute their program. The program will last from Production Start to Closing Night - roughly 5 months for a mainstage production. This commitment will average 20 hours per week, less in the beginning and more as the show reaches opening and show dates. SMs will:

  • Develop Rehearsal Plan and Calendar
  • Handle communication with cast and director
  • Coordinate rehearsals, make sure goals are met in rehearsal
  • Act as House Manager during tech week and show dates
  • Call Cues during shows
