Museum Educator – Studio Programs at the BMA.

The Baltimore Museum of Art seeks a full-time, experienced Museum Educator – Studio
Programs to join their Multi-Generational Learning team. The ideal candidate will facilitate
dynamic, interactive tours of the Museum’s collections and exhibitions and lead engaging,
hands-on artmaking experiences for preK-12 audiences, families, and adults.

As a key member of the Multi-Generational Learning team, the Museum Educator – Studio
Programs designs and implements studio-based programs for school-aged audiences
throughout the year – from studio activities during field trips to afterschool programs to
summer camps – that foster creativity, experimentation, and connection with art. This position
also collaborates across departments to develop artmaking experiences for a range of public
programs, including Free Family Sunday and Community Day; Accessibility programming to
create inclusive experiences; and Art & Wellbeing initiatives to support health and socialemotional
growth. This role also contributes to engagement offerings for visitors of all ages in
the BMA’s galleries and at our Lexington Market branch.

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Multi-Generational Learning. The
schedule for this position is Wednesday through Sunday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Lead interactive tours of the Museum’s collections and exhibitions for preK-12 students
and adult visitors as needed, both in-person and virtually.
• Design and implement studio-based programs for preK-12 audiences, including
artmaking experiences for school tours, summer camps, and afterschool programs.
• Facilitate weekly Free Family Sundays drop-in studio activities, including planning, setup,
and staff coordination.
• Design and implement hands-on art activities for public and adult programs such as
Community Day, Access programs, and Art & Wellbeing initiatives.
• Collaborate with Education colleagues to develop engagement offerings and integrated
learning experiences within the Museum’s galleries, and offsite at the BMA’s Lexington
Market branch.
• Maintain studio spaces and materials in the Joseph Education Center, including
inventory management and coordination of space reservations.
• Communicate with teachers, families, and program participants to confirm logistics,
establish expectations, and encourage feedback.
• Implement inclusive, developmentally appropriate teaching strategies grounded in
antiracist pedagogy, trauma-informed practice, and social-emotional learning.
• Participate in reflective teaching practice and professional learning alongside the Multi-
Generational Learning team.
• Support special projects and other duties as assigned, including contributions to
education programs, which may include occasional weekend work.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated excellence in designing and leading studio-based educational programs
for children, families, preK-12, and adult audiences.
• Strong gallery teaching skills and experience facilitating inquiry-based learning.
• Deep understanding of child development, early learning, and family engagement
practices.
• Experience with inclusive, antiracist, and trauma-informed teaching practices, as well as
social-emotional learning approaches.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage
multiple programs, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex ideas into
engaging, age-appropriate content.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including Education, Curatorial,
Visitor Experience, Marketing, and Development.
• Comfort with technology, including virtual teaching platforms.
• Creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to respond effectively to
unexpected challenges.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues,
participants, and community partners.
• Proficiency with or experience using online tools, including Microsoft Office, Airtable,
and ACME (or comparable museum software).

This is a bargaining unit position.

SALARY - $55,238 annually
