Maryland Humanities seeks a Grants Specialist

Job Description

The Grants Specialist is primarily responsible for all elements of the grant-seeking process: researching and cultivating funding prospects and opportunities, preparing LOIs and proposals, and accurately tracking and reporting on grant-supported activities to funders. Annual and long-term fundraising goals will be set in consultation with the Director of Advancement. Specific responsibilities are outlined below. The Grants Specialist works collaboratively with the other members of the Advancement team as well as Program staff members in furthering the financial resources of the organization in order to maximize the potential for growth and impact of Maryland Humanities’ dozen programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the pursuit of long-term institutional development goals in alignment with the strategic plan as well as annual fundraising plans
  • Research, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional funders—primarily corporations and foundations but also government agencies—through pursuit and management of competitive grant opportunities and sponsorships, including letters of inquiries, proposals, and reports
  • Collect and maintain supplemental documentation (budgets, timelines, images, evidence of recognition) as needed to support grant proposals, reports, and other donor requests in collaboration with Communications Specialist, Program staff, and Fiscal Officer
  • Manage board engagement with grant-seeking opportunities
  • Track annual institutional fundraising goals in conjunction with Director of Advancement

Qualifications

  • 2+ years demonstrated experience in fundraising, preferably in the fields of humanities, arts, literacy, or education
  • Experience writing successful grants and reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, esp. Word and Excel
  • Ability to cultivate credibility and mutual respect with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically and to manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong collaborative and teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently

Travel Required

This position requires occasional participation in evening and weekend events as well as occasional travel within the state of Maryland.

Compensation

Position is full-time at 35 hours per week with a competitive salary commensurate with experience and credentials (range: $42,000–$46,000).
