Baltimore Youth Arts is an artist-run, nomadic, after school program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to youth, ages 12-19, in Baltimore, MD. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the creative, personal, and educational skills that will enable them to become leaders in their communities.
We are currently hiring instructors for the the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. We are seeking instructors for visual , writing , and performance classes at one or more of our three teaching sites (the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center, Thomas JS Waxter Children's Center, or the Lillian S. Jones Recreation Center). We are interested in building our community of artists to expand program offerings and engage youth with varied interests.
Classes/workshops may include: painting, drawing, printmaking, songwriting, MC writing, creative writing, poetry, and photography (limited). We are also interested in receiving workshop proposals from local artists.
All positions are temporary. Instructors will work with youth for approximately 2-6 weeks at a time. Classes may be extended based on the feedback received from participants and program budget.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a 2-6 week class plan
- Engage youth, age 12-19, at one or more teaching sites
- Operate each class with BYA's values in mind
- Track participant attendance and submit to Program Director
- Assist in the documentation of student work
- Attend Best Practices meetings with other BYA staff and instructors
