Apprentice Program Facilitator Job Descriptions
Contract, Temporary, Part-Time
$25/hr for class + prep
Baltimore Youth Arts is a creative entrepreneurship and job training program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to youth, ages 14-22, with a focus on those involved in the justice system. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the creative, personal, and educational skills that will enable them to become leaders in their communities.
Baltimore Youth Arts is currently hiring the following facilitators for upcoming sessions at the BYA Community Studio located at 116 W. Mulberry St., Baltimore, MD 21201:
Graphic Design - WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS
February 24- March 26
Wednesdays: 4:30pm-6:30pm and Thursdays: 4:30pm-6:30pm
April 8- May 7
Thursdays: 4:30pm-6:30pm
Description: This class will teach youth to start thinking, seeing, and creating like a designer. Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, along with drafting techniques and mixed media, participants will learn how to create digital artworks for print and the web. Through this class, youth will be positioned to pursue design and digital creation jobs in the future.
Product Development - MONDAYS
February 24- March 23 and April 6-May 4
Mondays: 4:30pm-6:30pm
Description: In Product Design, BYA youth will learn how to turn their artistic creations and those of their peers into marketable products. This class will work alongside the Business class to amplify how these items can be sold on BYA platforms as well as through community events and in stores around Baltimore.
Painting - WEDNESDAYS
April 6-May 4
Wednesdays: 4:30pm-6:30pm
Description: In Painting, youth will learn to start thinking, seeing and creating like an artist using paints. Participants will learn about various painting materials and techniques to explore their personal visual language through both structured and independent projects.
These are temporary, contracted positions.
Instructors work with 6-10 youth for 5-10 weeks each session.
Supervised by the Studio Apprentice Program Manager
Responsibilities
Develop a 5-10 week lesson plan
Track participant attendance and submit to Deputy Director
Assist in the documentation of student work
Assist in passing out evaluations at the beginning and end of each session
Take part in required orientation and training at BYA (training stipend provided)
Create class outlines, lesson plans, and materials lists and share them with Studio Apprentice Program Manager
Facilitate Youth Apprentices in cleaning and organizing classrooms.
Requirements
Minimum Education: High School, some college preferred
Minimum Age: 24
Minimum teaching experience: 2 Years
Qualifications
Well versed in the media/subject you are teaching
Strong teaching and group facilitation skills
