Every first Thursday of the month visit us for free and take a collections highlights tour. Tours take place at 11 a.m. Explore the galleries with a member of our staff, hear the stories behind the artifacts on display and learn about Maryland’s rich history.
The Baltimore Taxidermy Open is one of the city’s most eccentric and fascinating annual events. Presented by the Walters Art Museum and Bazaar, a Hampden shop specializing in natural history items and morbid gifts, the event invites visitors to get up close and personal with inventive works of contemporary alternative taxidermy as well as examples of taxidermy from the Walters’ collection.

Join Port Discovery on Fridays in September for drop-in programs that teach through play! Explore movement and music together as you sing and dance along during our lively Toddler Music Jam. Introduce children to early literacy skills during Mother Goose on the Loose(R), take part in our signature Circle Time, and create simple art projects as a family!

This is the Maryland Historical Society's first free drop-in activity for the first Second Sunday season. Our theme this month: Every Tool Tells a Story. Tools are another link to the enslaved people, immigrants, Native Americans and free peoples. They tell their stories, life, and work. Join us as we explore examples of tools used by men and women displayed in our newly refreshed Divided Voices: Maryland in the Civil War exhibition. Participants will be inspired to craft their own tool and write its story. This event includes free museum admission.

PRISM is a holistic program with experiences in mindfulness, creative arts and crafts, yoga, movement, music, drama, and community projects for young people, ages 6-12. PRISM is a place where children can unplug from daily stresses and tune into wellbeing with imagination, creativity, and friendship.
Since June, the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) has hosted an exhibit of artwork by 17 Maryland artists whose work in some way depicts the hardships they face with behavioral health matters. The exhibit, entitled “Dusk & Dawn” is part of the New Day Campaign (http://newdaycampaign.org), an initiative dedicated to using arts programming and public engagement to challenge stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and substance use.
