Baltimore Shakespeare Factory presents Hamlet

in Original Shakespearean Pronunciation

BALTIMORE, MD – Hampden’s early modern theatre company, Baltimore Shakespeare Factory (BSF), is proud to present Hamlet, opening April 12, 2019. This famous tragedy, regarded by many as the greatest play ever written, will be staged on the Elizabethan stage of The Great Hall using Original Pronunciation, the accent of Shakespeare’s time.

Funny, thrilling, and heartbreaking, Hamlet is a tour de force. It has represented many things to many people, and often stands as shorthand for “Theatre.” Strip away the pretense, though, and what’s left is still a masterpiece. BSF presents it in Original Pronunciation, as audiences of the 1600s first heard it.

Hamlet will mark BSF’s fifth Original Pronunciation show, officially making this Baltimore company the American leader in OP productions.

Directed by BSF Resident Company Member Chris Cotterman (Love’s Labour’s Lost, Julius Caesar, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night’s Dream), the production stars Terrence Fleming as the Prince of Denmark, with Melanie Bishop (Gertrude), Conrad Deitrick (Marcellus), Sean Eustis (Rosencrantz), Erin Hanratty (Player Queen), Madeleine Adele Koon (Guildenstern), Ethan Larsen (Horatio), Rachel Manu (Ophelia), Terry O’Hara (Claudius), Shaquille Stewart (Polonius), Joshua Street (Laertes), and Morgan State University student Dylan McKenzi in various roles. Makeima Freeland, student at Notre Dame of Maryland University, assistant directs.

The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory will present Hamlet Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from April 12-May 5, 2019.
