Just as life, their love sprung from triple darkness. Two diasporic spirits, being guided by ancestral forces, persevere blindly through blight and despair into the collective memory of black love. Every form of life is cradled by darkness.
In this film, Amethyst Love Godz: Wedding of the AfroFuture, Black Skin is celebrated as proof of survival, ancestral acceptance, and divinity. The term “dark” or “black” has been negatively repurposed by the colonized world and this incorrect narrative has dominated the societal view of Blackness as a color and a global race of people.
Join the artists of Baltimore Musicales for an evening of powerful and moving Southern stories: Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with text by James Agee, Richard Danielpour’s Triptych with texts by Toni Morrison, and Paul Bowles’ Blue Mountain Ballads with texts by Tennessee Williams. Featured artists include soprano Thea Tullman Moore, mezzo-soprano Adrienne Ivey, baritone Jason Widney, and pianist Patricia McKewen Amato. A wine reception will follow the performance. Seating is not reserved and tickets will also be available at the door.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the National Electronics Museum is hosting a temporary exhibit, "The Pace Collection: Unique and Rarely Seen NASA Apollo Mission Hardware". The exhibit features an eclectic mix of artifacts from a private collection. Don’t forget the Museum also has on permanent display the Westinghouse Apollo XI lunar TV camera. The exhibit is free with paid museum admission. Open 10 July through 15 October 2019.

On July 11th The American Visionary Art Museum is premiering The Sound Of Music Sing-A-Long on the outdoor theater. Summer and Shakespeare go together like iced tea and lemonade! Prepare for summer fun as we lead you through a discussion of BSF's 2019 summer shows: the heartbreaking tragedy Romeo and Juliet and the side-splitting comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor. We will discuss the historical and literary background of these plays along with their characters and themes.
Who was the man who inspired the award-winning, supremely hip musical? How was Hamilton linked to Washington? Was he an abolitionist? What about the duel with Aaron Burr that led to his death? If you can’t see the play, come and learn the real history of Alexander Hamilton and his tumultuous life as explored through questions and answers with historians.
If you are going to see the play or have already seen it, this talk will make the politics and history much clearer!
Maryland Humanities brings arctic explorer Matthew Henson back to life through its program, Chautauqua: Making Waves. Chautauqua celebrates its 25th season this summer. A living history performance by actor-scholar Keith Henley will be followed by a question and answer session, which will spark spirited conversation and provide educational family fun.
Smooth Latin jazz vocalist and song-writer Debora Galan presents a blend of beloved Latin jazz selections with R&B and adult contemporary pop selections as well as her own luscious compositions inspired by her Spanish/Cuban ancestry, such as “Arms of Love” from her album All About Love. Carl Grubbs will take you on a trip down memory lane performing Music of the Visitors (Carl & Earl Grubbs) and selections from his latest project The Inner Harbor Suite Revisited: A Tribute to Baltimore. He has developed a passion for the alto sax, and from the influences of his brother Earl Grubbs, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane he has crafted his own distinct sound. Carl Grubbs has collaborated with eminent artists such as Julius Hemphill, Odean Pope, Reggie Workman, Rene McLean and John Blake.
