Ross J. Kelbaugh has been an avid collector of 19th and early 20th century photography for over 45 years. Part of his collecting has focused on African American photographs, which has enabled him to amass one of the most important collections, including a number of national treasures. The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture will feature his collection in a major exhibition this fall. This lecture will introduce some of his discoveries and the stories behind these national treasures.

The exhibition runs from February 7th until March 30th with an opening reception on February 7th from 6:00-8:00pm. The Arena Players Gallery & Exhibition Space, 801 McCulloh Street, is now showing its latest exhibition, Storypiece: Documentary Story Quilts of Dr. Joan M. E. Gaither. This collection spans from Dr. Gaither's personal mentors to Baltimore history and icons from the wider Maryland African American community. The exhibition is FREE and open to the public through February 28th, 2019. Gallery hours Thursday/ Friday 4pm-7pm; Saturday 12-6pm; Sunday 12-4pm. The event costs $20, and the exhibition is free to the public.

Students are introduced to design elements, methods of capture and assemblage with wire, fiber, recycled and found materials as well as basic jewelry finishing techniques. This a cappella performance of the Baltimore Choral Arts Chamber Singers recounts Hans Christian Andersen’s haunting short story of a poor child’s hopes and dreams. The Pulitzer Prize-winning composition will be matched with striking images created by MICA students. Visual and musical compositions are injected into the little match girl passion to create a multi-sensory mash-up!
There will be a post-concert Choral Conversation in Falvey Hall.

SISTER CITIES ANIMATED is an international screening of short animated films created by artists working and/or residing in Baltimore and in Baltimore’s Sister Cities, curated by award-winning animator and animation scholar Lynn Tomlinson, with help from assistant curator Safiyah Cheatam. This special event is part of the Sweaty Eyeballs animation series, held at Baltimore’s beautifully restored historic Parkway Theatre.
The Center for Innovation, Research and Creativity in the Arts presents Andrew Keiper and Kei Ito, a collaborative artist team whose large-scale visual and sound installations probe the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and their intertwined family histories. Ito’s grandfather witnessed the explosion of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima that killed his family, while Keiper’s grandfather was an engineer who contributed to the effort to develop the bomb.
The power of romantic love and its sway. Cupid’s Arrow, taking place on the eve of Valentine’s Day, indulges in romantic love.
The 5:30-6:30pm reception period is graced with jazz keyboardist George Spicka, and light fare provided by The Classic Catering People. With an assist from the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, the event includes audience members sharing their own testimonials of Valentine’s love, and a special interactive love letter writing activity by performance artist Spoon Popkin.
