A Student Showcase in Honor of Black History Month

Visit Baltimore, the Visit Baltimore Foundation & the Baltimore National Heritage Area are proud to
sponsor History Through Art – a showcasing of the work that Baltimore City students are doing in
acknowledging Baltimore’s African American Heritage in honor of Black History Month.
On Friday, February 8, the general public is invited to join with Baltimore City Public School students,
parents and staff in an opening reception and gallery walk at the Baltimore Visitor Center. The
exhibition will feature 32 works of student art and will be available for public display at the Visitor
Center for the month of February. Participating schools include Angela Y Davis Leadership Academy,
ConneXions Academy, Augusta Fall High School, Poly High School, Western High School, George
Washington Elm/Middle, Gwynn Falls Elem and Highlandtown Elm/Middle.
The evening’s program is as follows:
• 4:30pm Dunbar Jazz Ensemble
• 5:00pm Formal Program featuring remarks from Baltimore City Public Schools,
the Baltimore National Heritage Area and Visit Baltimore (Foundation)

• 5:15pm ConneXions Fine Arts Demonstrations
Brandon Booth, choir
Papa Dame African Drumming

• 5:30pm Gallery Walk & Reception

Reception provided by the culinary students at the National
Academy Foundation

Framing and artwork display is made possible by the Baltimore National Heritage Area. In addition to
sponsoring the reception by National Academy Foundation culinary students, the Visit Baltimore
Foundation is underwriting the cost of transportation for student musical performers as an extension of
its new City Schools Transportation Fund.
