Comedy: Zainab Johnson
Tonight is the third part of our series Nisa’a/Women: Muslim Cultural Identity-Six Women on Stage and in Conversation. Nisa’a celebrates the powerful artistry of women with roots in Muslim communities in the U.S. and around the world. During extended engagements in the city, these artists will perform and participate in conversations with students at Baltimore City public schools and audiences at the Creative Alliance.

Enjoy an afternoon of world-class art and music-making! Xiaohui Yang, one of The Peabody Conservatory's top talents, is a graduate of The Curtis Institute and The Juilliard School. With recent engagements including the New Jersey and Milwaukee symphonies, she will astonish with a vibrant display of artistry and virtuosity.
Mr. Pratt Presents Carl Bernstein & P.J. O'Rourke
During their joint appearance, dubbed "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the White House", Bernstein and O’Rourke provide a "no holds barred" look at today's most pressing political topics-from dysfunction on Capitol Hill to the road to the White House. The evening includes a cocktail reception and seated dinner program, followed by a dessert reception and book signing.
The Columbia Orchestra Presents: Symphonic Pops
Choose from two performances of our popular, family-friendly Symphonic Pops Concert! Sola Fadiran, winner of the Howard County Arts Council’s 2017 Rising All-Star Competition, and Julie Kurzava join the Orchestra for timeless classics from Rodgers & Hammerstein's Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific and Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, Company, and Into the Woods. The whole family will love selections from Candide and Fiddler on the Roof, as well as blockbuster films such as E.T. and Superman.

An Evening with Chris Smither
Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for 50 years, Smither is truly an American original. Chris continues to be a profound songwriter, a blistering guitarist, and an intense performer who draws deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets, and humanist philosophers.

Their show is like no other. Through their immersive creative process and bold interpretations, Anna & Elizabeth’s visionary partnership pioneers new ways of presenting old songs and stories to modern audiences. Since 2011, with a deep and shared love of old Appalachian music, they stand at the vanguard of tradition and the avant-garde, transforming traditional music with innovative, modern arrangements. Their captivating performance integrates visual art, movement and experimental film with breathtaking harmonies.
The Bakkhai
McDaniel College theatre arts students perform “The Bakkhai,” Euripides’s classical Greek tragedy about the struggle to the death between freedom and restraint, the rational and the irrational, man and God, translated by award-winning classics scholar, poet and writer Anne Carson. Elizabeth van den Berg, chair of McDaniel’s theatre arts department, directs the production.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, seniors (over 60), active military members and veterans, as well as those with a McDaniel College ID. For tickets, call 410-857-2448.
If Music Be the Food
World-class musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Peabody Conservatory volunteer their talents for this concert to increase awareness and support for the hungry. All proceeds from the series benefit the Maryland Food Bank. Audience members are also invited to bring non-perishable food items for donation.
Sidi Toure
Sidi Touré is a highly acclaimed practitioner of Songhaï Music with two Malian National Arts Awards for best singer. Touré led Gao’s regional orchestra, The Songhaï Stars, prior to going out on his own. In 2011, he released Sahel Folk, his debut album for Thrill Jockey Records, touring North America and Europe for the first time. For his fourth release, Toubalbero (a big traditional drum used to call and gather people in Gao), Touré has created a danceable, dynamic, and joyous album played with some of the most exciting new faces on the Mailian music scene.

Ballet Theatre of Maryland's "Innovations 2018"
New dramatic, traditional and contemporary works all come together as BTM presents: Innovations 2017-2018. Composer Ryan Lucas has been commissioned to create another new work for BTM. Marc Galibre’sAthletic and powerful Vortex returns; and the classical short version of Raymonda makes its BTM debut. Additional new and returning works will be announced at a later date.
