Step into 1950s Pittsburgh, where former Negro League baseball star Troy Maxson battles the weight of a dream deferred. Now working the city streets as a trash collector, he finds his simmering regrets threatening to fracture the family he loves. A poignant and powerful exploration of love, responsibility, and the invisible fences that confine us.

The life and legacy of Frederick Douglass is honored in a musical offering with poetry and music featuring themes of truth and justice, beginning with a recital by mezzo-soprano Gayssie Lugo at 4:30 pm.
The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 4:00 pm. A suggested donation of $10-$20 directly benefits the musicians and the music series.

Join Dance & Bmore for our Elder Arts & Wellness Jams at the 29th St Community Center. The Elder Arts Jam is a creative space where senior citizens can dance, share stories, exchange recipes, laugh, and sing. Each virtual or live class includes a “Did You Know” segment featuring healthy how-to tips, news, and research for the aging. There is also an open mic segment where elders share songs, poetry, and memories.

At its center are fantastical feminine figures creating universes and experiencing their own divinity. Inspired by Afro-Dominican spiritual traditions of “carrying a mystery,” as well as Native Taíno Zemi goddesses, LUSMERLIN celebrates the gift of spiritual presence and creation in women.
