Join us for Floetic Friday, a series of spoken word and hip hop expression by up-and-coming emcees, poets, and DJs. This month's theme is Black Love. Open mic followed by a featured performers Bria McCormick and Cierra Lione. Open mic performers may register on-site and availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7pm. Food and drink will be available for purchase from the museum cafe' 7pm-9pm. Performances begin at 7:30pm. Admission: $6 members, $8 non-members. Tickets are available for purchase at the door. The event is sponsored by Associated Black Charities.

Common Senses features collaborative artwork and immersive installations that trigger multi-sensory experiences in order to ignite new forms of perception. These parallel, audience-driven exhibitions offer macro and micro experiences through a focus on interactive participation and accessibility. The first part of the exhibition happens on February 3rd and runs through February 25th, 2017 with the opening reception on February 4th from 5-8pm at Project 1628.

Platform Gallery is pleased to present AIN’T I A WOMAN, on view at 116 W Mulberry Street. AIN’T I A WOMAN is a solo, multi-disciplinary exhibition of works by SHAN, an artist and activist who creates work with her local communities in Baltimore. AIN’T I A WOMAN is a new body of work by SHAN that is complete with programming throughout the month of the exhibition.

Small Business/Big Art is a series of moderated conversations with students and entrepreneurial artists in casual settings that reveal the new and changing ways artists create business models that sustain them both operationally and artistically. Join members of the JACK Quartet, an artist-led organization and string quartet, and directors from Art Works Now, a locally based artist-led small business, for this highly interactive and informative discussion.
Baltimore artist Ryan Hoover presents a visiting artist lecture. Hoover teaches at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the interdisciplinary sculpture department.
Platform is pleased to present a dual panel discussion following the current exhibiton: AIN'T I A WOMAN. The panel will be focusing on shifting the narratives of black women from margin to center.

OUR WORLD is an engaging spoken word piece addressing the need to end the plague of hate, stereotypes, and other prejudices by coming together as a community and as a human race. By addresssing societal trends and accountability, the performance calls attention to the danger of our own thoughts and actions and encourages a collaboration of individuals which will, in turn, inspire a new world of hope.

This intimate exhibition celebrates the 40-year career of Maryland artist Louise B. Wheatley. Internalizing the lessons of ancient masters, Wheatley creates art that is unmistakably a reflection of her own unique vision and her self-imposed sense of technical perfection.
This show features selected works by artists who have participated in workshops and weekly classes at the Chesapeake Fine Art Studio in Stevensville, Maryland.
Artwork will be judged by Baltimore artist Palden Hamilton - Awards will be announced during the Opening Reception on Thursday, February 16th! Join us for a glass of wine and enjoy the show!!

Explore questions large and small about karaoke with local karaoke DJs (KJs) and Byrd McDaniel, karaoke scholar at Brown University. What makes for a good performance? How have different communities adopted and adapted karaoke to make it their own?
Admission is free. Panel discussion will be followed by an opening reception of the Karaoke: Asia’s Global Sensation exhibition.

MICA and the Youth Resiliency Institute (YRI) present a premiere screening of Lom Nava Love, a documentary centered on the work of community organizer Shirley Foulks and the residents of Cherry Hill, Baltimore, where she facilitates workshops for cross-generational art-making and children’s education.. The film is directed by YRI co-founder Fanon Hill, with original music performed by internationally renowned singer-songwriter and fellow YRI co-founder Navasha Daya.
