Following sold out engagements at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center, jazz pianist, composer, and artist Jason Moran and mezzo-soprano and composer Alicia Hall Moran will create a special rendition of their acclaimed Two Wings: The Music of Black America in Migration performance. Renowned author and scholar Farah Jasmine Griffin will read from her works on the Great Migration, Billie Holiday, and more, as the Morans share their own family lore, both harrowing and inspiring.
Shostakovich’s transcendent Fifth Symphony uses the coded language of musical irony that was off limits in the repressive Soviet regime. The trailblazing Finnish conductor Eva Ollikainen conducts this nuanced score with characteristic thoughtfulness, and her steady hand navigates the turbulent scenes from Britten’s dark tale of social isolation.

An evening of music for lute and viola da gamba from Ronn McFarlane and Carrolyn Surrick.
Acclaimed lutenist Ronn McFarlane returns to St. David’s, alongside Carolyn Surrick, viola da gamba, to present an evening of Renaissance and Baroque music, Celtic and Swedish folk tunes, and original compositions.
The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. A suggested donation of $15 ($10 retirees & students, no obligation for children 12 and under) directly benefits the musicians and the music series. Masks are encouraged.
UMBC's Department of Music presents Outside the Lines, a concert series made possible with financial support from UMBC’s Linehan Fund for Excellence in the Arts. These concerts feature three unique ensembles dedicated to blurring traditional music formats in presentation and composition.
Join Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock, the Bach in Baltimore Choir and Orchestra, plus special guests for a sparkling concert illuminating Fauré’s Requiem and a pair of Haydn symphonies. Fauré’s composition is noteworthy for its serene and peaceful mood. Unlike large-scale requiems by Verdi, Brahms, and others, Fauré’s work exudes a gentle stillness and ethereal spirituality. Fauré composed his Requiem following the death of his father, and his mother passed away shortly after it premiered, giving the work added poignancy.

Celebrate our 35th Anniversary with an all-Bach tribute, featuring Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 & Cantata 184. Nothing is more delightful than the six Bach Brandenburg Concerti. Our concert features one of the most beloved, Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 for two solo flutes, solo violin, and string orchestra. Equally alluring is Cantata 184: Erwünschtes Freudenlicht (Desired light of joy), which, like the Brandenburg Concerto, has delightful underpinnings of dance throughout.

Orchester Praževica’s high energy music draws on Eastern European, Balkan, jazz, and other musical traditions. The band’s director is Tomáš Drgoň, a Slovak born and raised musician who is a cornerstone of Baltimore’s music scene.
The event will also be a chance to hear from My Odessa curator Liora Ostroff, to share a story or reflection with the Museum’s Storybooth, and the last chance to see Ladyzhensky’s paintings in person.
Baltimore-based Mount Vernon Virtuosi is an innovative chamber orchestra of exceptional young musicians who are in transition from their studies to a professional career. Founded by cellist, pedagogue, and conductor Amit Peled, the ensemble alternates between a free-of-charge concert season in several Baltimore area communities with events in Virginia, greater Washington DC, and beyond. The Mount Vernon Virtuosi regularly performs at three venues in Maryland – the Pratt Library in Baltimore, Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, and the Bender JCC in Rockville.
