Break from Normalcy – the “Trout” Piano Quintet
Taking a break from the traditional norm, Schubert’s “Trout” Piano Quintet uses double bass in its instrumentation to create a different sonority. Schubert’s use of his own Lieder in this piece brings an enchanting lyricism to the composition. In addition to “Trout”, two duets by Beethoven and Martinů featuring unusual routes on instrumentation will round out an evening of refreshing aural experience.
