Force of Destiny: The Life and Music of Rosa Ponselle

Force of Destiny: The Life and Music of Rosa Ponselle

Considered one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century, Rosa Ponselle spent nineteen seasons at the Metropolitan Opera before retiring to Villa Pace, her lavish estate in Baltimore County.

On the centennial of her 1918 Met debut opposite Enrico Caruso, we trace her incredible journey from Vaudeville to the Greenspring Valley through art songs, arias and duets that helped shape the careers of both Ponselle and her sister Carmela. Featured vocalists will include Claire Galloway, Annie Gill, Min Jin, and Thea Tullman Moore with pianist Ka Nyoung Yoo.

Doors open at 6:15 with the first 200 guests admitted.

This concert is sponsored by the Arthur Friedheim Library of the Peabody Institute, which holds a special collection of rare material on Rosa Ponselle donated by the Lester Dequaine/Frank Chiarenza Foundation in 2015. Following the concert, audience members are invited to visit the Friedheim Library for a reception and an opportunity to view an exhibit of historical items from the Rosa Ponselle collection. More information about the collection is available at http://musiclibrary.peabody.jhu.edu/rosaponselle.
