One of the great jazz trumpeters of our time, Sean Jones is known for his technical brillliance, his bold but tasteful improvisation, and for the emotional depth of his music. Just named chair of Peabody’s Jazz Studies, he will be joined in this Tiffany Series concert by faculty members Alex Brown on piano, Kris Funn on bass, and Quincy Phillips on drums.
Marvel at the virtuosic and lyrical gifts of the woodwind family in this year’s annual Patagonia Winds concert. Highlights include beloved quintets by Nielsen and D’Rivera, and audience favorites by Bernstein and Gershwin.
The riveting Pacifica Quartet debuts with SHCS favorite, pianist-composer Marc-André Hamelin, who “ranks among the small handful of performers in every generation whose abilities defy the imagination” (The Toronto Star). Hamelin and the Quartet, hailed by The Telegraph as “nothing short of phenomenal,” perform works by Beethoven and Hamelin, closing with Schumann’s captivating piano quintet.

Depth of Field: Recent Acquisitions

The exhibition Depth of Field presents approximately one hundred images acquired over the last ten years by UMBC’s Photography Collections through generous gifts from donors and artists. The photographs on view highlight the breadth and depth of the collection and illustrate the range of forms, technology, and artists that historically shaped the medium and are presently impacting its ongoing evolution.
The Baltimore Architecture Foundation in coordination with the Havre de Grace Arts Collective presents an “Early Women of Architecture in Maryland” exhibit at the Opera House and” Poldi Hirsh – The Artistic Vision of an Early Modern Architect” exhibit at Concord Point Coffee in Havre de Grace. The Exhibits runs October 1 to November 30.
Receptions are on Thurs., October 11 from 6-8pm at the Opera House and on Saturday, November 3 from 2-4pm at Concord Point Coffee (217 N. Washington Street, Havre de Grace).
Join the University of Maryland, College of Arts & Humanities for the first 2018-19 Dean's Lecture Series: Year of Immigration featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen. Nguyen will present “Refugees, Immigrants, Americans: Changing Our Stories,” followed by a book signing and reception.

Woven throughout the evening will be a look back at a remarkable history.
Nutcracker is a beloved holiday classic; Scarecracker is its spooky, modern-day cousin. Our heroine is Cora, a mischievous girl whose Halloween party takes a turn for the weird when her witchy Aunt Druscilla shows up and concocts a very special candy called the Halloween Sweet.
Programming for the Cordially Invited exhibition features an inclusive mixed media workshop where participants respond to artworks in Cordially Invited followed by an educational panel discussion about representation and ability/disability in the arts community. Current panelists include George Ciscle, Maxine Taylor (MAXgallery), and Joy Davis (Waller Gallery). This will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 1-3pm (workshop) and 3-5pm (panel).
