Memento mori
November 18 - December 17, 2022 at The Parlor, 108 West North Avenue
Featuring 50 works from a dozen artists, Memento mori marks a significant transition in the life of 108 West North Avenue — a late 19th-century rowhome that from 1914 until recently served the community as a funeral home. The Victorian era building in its present state is a readymade work of art further enhanced with the artworks presented in the exhibition – gathered to acknowledge and celebrate the building's past, and its future.
The building, newly dubbed The Parlor, will serve as an affordable creative hub for art and artists in the Station North Arts District as well as a speakeasy bar and restaurant with access to Graffiti Alley.
The exhibition is a meditation on mortality and memory, dedicated to lives lost in Baltimore and the loved ones left behind as we enter the holiday season. With that in mind, we will be encouraging donations to Roberta's House, a non-profit organization in Baltimore that provides trauma-informed care through free programs to support children and families who are grieving a natural or traumatic death of a family member or significant person.
The exhibition opens on November 18 and will run through December 17, with live performances from 6:30-8 pm November 18 by Michele Blu and Carrie Fucile & Brenton Lim and a pop-up speakeasy, designed by No Land Beyond, featuring beverages crafted by mixologist Ciara Newton.
