Instrument Making Workshop
Journey back in time through the Ocarina, a type of clay flute produced across Central and South America for thousands of years. Pianist Benito Gonzalez “two-time Grammy nominee” is an internationally beloved artist who combines a long lineage of American jazz traditions with rhythms from around the world. He’s worked with dozens of the greats, and he always brings some of the best rhythm section players in the world. Jazz Beyond Borders will present Brazilian vocalist Daniela Soledade and guitarist Nate Najar on Sunday, August 15 in the “Jazz at the Mezz” performance series in the courtyard and gardens of Cafe Mezzanotte in Severna Park, Maryland.
Children ages 5 ½ to 12 are invited to audition for the 2021-2022 Conservatory Season! Mexican Marimba Cumbia Punk Misfits
Born and raised in the deep outskirts of Mexico City, the Gama brothers are keeping alive the rich legacy of marimba music running through their family with their latest project, Son Rompe Pera. While firmly rooted in the tradition of this historic instrument, their fresh take on the folk icon challenges its limits as never before, moving it into the garage/punk world of urban misfits and firmly planting it in the 21st century.
