In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for an artist exhibition featuring Mexican artist, Francisco Loza. Francisco creates vibrant Art de Estambre or pressed yarn art. The Arte de Estambre technique is associated with the Huichol people, an indigenous group that lives in the central mountainous region of Mexico. Mr. Loza learned the technique from Huichol artisans and continues to collaborate with Huichol artisan-shamans in Mexico and the US.
Shamarr Allen is the definition of New Orleans Music! Hailing from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, Allen has influences in jazz, hip hop, rock, funk, funk blues, and country. In addition to performing with his band, Allen has collaborated with many renowned artists such as Willie Nelson, Galactic, Mannie Fresh, Patti Labelle, Harry Connick Jr. and Lenny Kravitz to name a few. In addition to displaying his skills on the frontline as a lead performer, Allen is also a music composer, writer, producer and multi instrumentalist.
Join us Friday, October 15th at 7:30pm as we celebrate the thirty-six 2021 Baker Artist Awardees on the annual Artworks special on Maryland Public Television. The special will air at 7:30 on MPT-HD, and will also be repeated throughout the weekend. The special will also air on Saturday Oct 16th at 8:00pm on MPT-2, and again on October 17 at 6:30am on MPT-HD.
