Twenty innovative mixed-media fiber works demonstrate Elizabeth Talford Scott’s belief in artmaking’s ability to offer people an opportunity to break free of social limitations, evolve new ways of communicating, and nurture dreams. Her works innovate the practice of quilting by incorporating unconventional objects such as stones, buttons, and sequins in heavily layered surfaces.

Stitched Memories: Celebrating Elizabeth Talford Scott invites visitors to experience the artworks of Elizabeth Talford Scott (1916–2011). A Baltimore quilt artist, Talford Scott used quilts and other textiles to tell stories and to preserve memories.

The Howard County Arts Council's annual Resident Visual Artists Exhibit showcases recent artwork by artists with studios at the Center for the Arts: Phill Branch, Kassamira Carter-Howard (Emerging Resident Studio Artist), Sara Engel, Sherry Jankiewicz, Myungsook Ryu Kim, Diana Marta, Lisa Scarbath, Jereme Scott, Asma Ahmed Shikoh, Andrei Trach, Jamie Travers, Mary Jo Tydlacka, and David Zuccarini. Unfolding: Dualities features the artwork of John Chang and Jeffrey Repko. By invoking calligraphic forms, Chang’s paintings comment on the distortion of language and reclaim the energy of the written word. Repko’s sculptures investigate the idea of function through a dialogue between traditional techniques and contemporary technologies. UMBC's Intermedia and Digital Arts Master’s Program presents Not Grounded, the 2024 IMDA MFA Thesis Exhibition. Opening with a public reception on Thursday, April 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., the exhibition features four artists with diverse artistic practices and approaches: Elly Kalantari, Andrew Liang, Kristin Putchinski, and A. M. Zellhofer.

Tiona Nekkia McClodden’s genre-defying work, Play Me Home (2021), is a four-channel video with sound and sculptural objects (two horns, a leather-bound script, and seeds) blending narrative fiction and nonfiction. This installation reflects the Philadelphia-based artist’s three-year journey of delving into her family history and funerary traditions in the South.

Current Space is proud to present the 2024 Baker Artist Award Finalist Showcase, an exhibition of works by finalists in the Visual and Interdisciplinary Arts disciplines, on view in the Project Space.

From occupational therapy to memorializing loved ones or precious objects, the practice of quilting can aid in physical and/or emotional healing. In this virtual program, explore the different ways quilting has been used as a therapeutic tool, and practice designing your own healing quilt square. An at-home material list will be provided at registration. The program is suitable for all ages.

Join us at Gallery 1448 at the opening reception / garden party for Tasting Spring, an exhibition of works by Greg Fletcher and Leslie Schwing. Both artists have been creating artwork professionally for over 40 years. For the past 30 years, they have been sharing a studio and an art life at Artists Housing Inc. in Baltimore. Together they have developed and maintained the impressive gardens on the grounds of Artists Housing.

Artist-run venue The Compound will host a musical and visual art fundraiser for the Baltimore Beat, a Black-led and controlled nonprofit print newspaper. The event will feature performances by popular local musicians Outcalls; Glorian; DJ Ducky Dynamo; and visual art displays by Micah E. Wood, James C. Waller, and Kurt Astudillo; with more artists to be announced. The event is at 8pm with a suggested donation of $15; 100% of ticket sales and on-site donations going to fund the important work of the Baltimore Beat.
