Celebrating the international exchange program between UMBC’s Department of Music and the Conservatorio “G. Nicolini” in Piacenza, Italy, UMBC welcomes Professor Riccardo Dapelo for lectures, concerts, and masterclasses.
This event, “Gravitational Harmony,” features RUCKUS, the UMBC faculty new music ensemble. The program will include:
Eugene Onegin follows the story of the title character, a disillusioned aristocrat who rejects the love of the passionate Tatyana, only to later realize his own feelings for her. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century Russian society, this opera filled with lush music explores themes of unrequited love, societal expectations, and the consequences of one's actions.

McDaniel College’s Theatre Arts department presents a student-directed reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice journeys to the underworld, where she reunites with her beloved father and struggles to recover lost memories of her husband and the world she left behind.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors (over 60), active military members and veterans, as well as those with a McDaniel College ID.

Hittin’ With the Youngins will feature one student composer and performances by an acclaimed musician from the Peabody Jazz faculty.

To mark our 10th anniversary, Viva Brasil! expands to a weekend celebration of Brazilian culture! Tonight we celebrate the sound of sunshine! In Brazil, the word bossa is old-fashioned slang for something done with particular charm, natural flair, or innate ability. When it comes to Brazilian music, the first song that might come to mind is “The Girl From Ipanema” penned by songwriter Antônio Carlos Jobim and performed by singer Astrud Gilberto, guitarist João Gilberto, and saxophonist Stan Getz.
The UMBC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Matt Belzer, is joined by guest artist and multi-instrumentalist Aurora Nealand for a fabulous evening of jazz.
With brass blaring and strings soaring, James Conlon trailblazes an epic journey through high points of the opera that caps Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The last time the legendary Wagnerian soprano Christine Goerke joined the BSO to channel the fearsome Brünnhilde, “Her voice didn’t just soar above the orchestra; she drew them up to meet it.” (The Washington Post) The terse, wordless drama of Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony raises the curtain on this monumental program.

Towson University faculty member Joseph Gotoff, cellist, and pianist Wan-Chi Su present a program of works by all-female composers. Spanning over 150 years and diverse musical styles, this program emphasizes the creativity and genius of a group of composers that have historically been marginalized. The program also includes a world premiere of a work for cello and piano by Boston-based composer Binna Kim.
