About the Howard County Autism Society

The Howard County Autism Society (HCAS), an award-winning chapter of the national Autism Society, offers support to the hundreds of families with autism in the county. Its reach extends well beyond the diagnosis of autism to include the broader special education and developmental disabilities population. Likewise it extends beyond county borders in attracting families to its support group meetings, advocacy and educational seminars, and social events. Formally established in 1993, HCAS is the only autism–specific organization in the state with its own resource center and paid staff. The Columbia-based office is open weekdays and several evenings of the month, provides a welcoming environment for Howard County families and professionals looking for support, training, and resources related to autism.
