Richard Walshe’s “Alchemical Studio” allows visitors to experience the artists' reflections on botany, technology, time, mysticism and personal transformation through art. The ideas stem from a desire to understand the workings of the natural world in an era of constant artificial distractions. As alternative methods of exploring this world, ritual, magic and alchemy interact with botanical samples, scientific apparatuses and the current “plugged in” reality. The art exists in the process and thus the work is representative of a long term multidisciplinary practice seeking hidden knowledge in nature.

Richard J. Walshe is an artist working in Baltimore, MD and New York, NY. His work utilizes many mediums including drawing, video, bio art, installation and performance. He received an MFA in the interdisciplinary Art Practice program at the School of Visual Arts.
