In keeping with a tradition that started with last year's 25th anniversary MdFF, we're thrilled to once again feature Spotlight Screenings leading up to the Maryland Film Festival, Nov 5-9. Stay tuned for more MdFF Spotlight events throughout September and October.

This WORLD PREMIERE screening of The StoryDancer will involve many members of Maria Broom's community and will be followed by a lively discussion with the artist and the filmmakers.

In 1977, Maria Broom chose to leave her high-profile job on Baltimore's local news station and listen to her inner voice calling her to dance. From decades of leading children in meditation with an ancient fire, to her work on HBO’s The Wire - her life is a testament to the beauty that comes when one embraces their true purpose and forgets the status quo.

A true story guided by Maria Broom’s life, teachings, and messages. This film is a collage of archive, storytelling, dance medicine, and joybringing which paints a picture of one of Baltimore’s most adored artists. Maria leads by example, encouraging those who cross her path to ask themselves how they are leading their own lives and why.
