Forbidden Stanzas: A Public Reading of Poems Banned Through the Ages

Forbidden Stanzas: A Public Reading of Poems Banned Through the Ages

In honor of Banned Books Week (October 5-11), the DC-Maryland Chapter of Writers for Democratic Action is hosting a free public reading of poems from all eras and cultures that were been banned because someone was offended.

This fun and freewheeling event with a serious side takes place at the funky and charming Meander Art Bar in Baltimore’s Upper Fells Point. The food is terrific and the cocktails are magical.

Readers are Welcome!

If you’d like to read a poem from our suggested list (you’re responsible for obtaining the text), or read a short transgressive poem of your own, that’s great! We’ll have a sign-up sheet at the door and will cram in as many readings as we can.

Listeners are Also Welcome!

You don’t need to read to participate. Come and listen and cheer for your favorite poems that have been banned…or may be banned in the future if the fascists get their way.
