Columbia Maryland Film Festival FILMMAKERS ON THE FRONTLINE & Reception

The Columbia Maryland Film Festival will present FILMMAKERS ON THE FRONTLINE LIVE In-Person at the Maryland Innovation Center, on Thursday September 12, 2024 at 6PM.

Eighty years on from World War II witness the heroic D-Day Normandy landings onwards through the Liberation of Paris in this critically acclaimed story of the filmmakers who immortalized the terrible events of that fateful summer of 1944 with historic photos and film.

This powerful French made documentary (in English) follows four key players John Ford, the celebrated Hollywood film director who was employed by the Field Photographic Branch of the Office of Strategic Services, the intelligence-gathering forerunner of the CIA. George Stevens, who won Academy awards for best director twice in the 1950s – for Giant and A Place in the Sun – was with Gen. Dwight D Eisenhower’s Special Coverage Unit. Jack H. Lieb was a filmmaker and Correspondent for newsreel company News of the Day. Sgt Richard Taylor was a combat photographer with the 165th Signal Photographic Company of the US army Signal Corps. Interviews include George Stevens, Jr, son of the Hollywood producer, Eisenhower's Granddaughter, Susan Eisenhower, Jack H. Lieb's Grandson (and Columbia Maryland Film Festival Producer) Robert Neal Marshall, as well as Richard Taylor's daughter Jennifer Taylor Rossel.
