Roots Cafe: The Chesapeake Pirate Band

Join us at An die Musik Live for the world debut of THE CHESAPEAKE PIRATE BAND!

featuring
Sage O’Silver (Snider)
Queen Christina (Van Norman)
Calypso Bob (Pyle)
Captain Geoff (Himes)

The Chesapeake Pirate Band has come together to restore the romantic era of the pirates who roamed Maryland’s estuary in the 18 th and 19 th centuries. To do this, they have written more than a dozen brand new pirate songs that chronicle both the good times and the bad of the buccaneer life. Pirate-music veteran Sage O’Silver Snider (seen in the photo) will join “Calypso” Bob Pyle, Pirate Queen Christina Van Norman and Roots Café host Captain Geoffrey Himes in performing these new numbers plus some pirate classics.

SAGE O’SILVER: Also known as Sage Snider, O’Silver is a singer-songwriter, fiddler, flatfooter, and playwright who has performed with Nashville’s Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers for the last four years. She also served as the Director of Cultural Engagement for the Braver Angels non-profit group and continues to support its creative programming as an advisor. Her Braver Angels performances include creating and touring an original show the length of the East Coast, leading an original theatrical production about the meaning of Gettysburg in today's divided America, and performing with Gangstagrass. She is comfortable in genres ranging from classical to bluegrass, rock, pop, pirate, and beyond. http://www.sagesnider.com

QUEEN CHRISTINA: Also known as Christina Van Norman, the Queen is an Americana/Roots, singer, songwriter, guitarist, cellist and banjo player who has been performing around the Baltimore/Washington Area for longer than she cares to mention. She is known both as a solo artist and as a performer with such bands as The Cosmic Cowgirls, Cryin’ Fridays, Kemp and Van Norman, Edge City, Billy Kemp and the Paradise Rockers, and the Beltway Bandits. Her lyrics reflect her interests in dogs, politics, pirates, humor, love, conspiracy theories, and the rain. https://www.facebook.com/ChristinaVanNorman/

CALYPSO BOB: Also known as Bob Pyle, Calypso Bob is a clawhammer banjo player and comic singer. He flips the banjo, yodels, tells jokes and writes songs that make you smile. Bob's song, “When J Edgar Hoover Wore a Dress,” was played on the Dr. Demento Show, and was voted one of the top 25 comedy songs of 2013. A native of Baltimore, Bob also has vegan songs and an album called “Apples and Oranges” that was played on radio stations around the world. One of the songs from “Apples and Oranges,” “I've Been Restored,” was made into a TV commercial for Farmers Insurance. Bob's musical influences include Grandpa Jones, Uncle Dave Macon, and early old- time string bands. https://www.allmusic.com/.../bob-pyle-mn0001992776/biography

CAPTAIN GEOFF: Though he is best known as Geoffrey Himes, a music critic for the Washington Post, American Songwriter, Nashville Scene, Jazz Times, No Depression, Paste and many more, Captain Geoff is also a longtime singer-songwriter who has co-written songs with Si Kahn, Fred Koller, Walter Egan, Sonia Rutstein, Billy Kemp, Stephen Wade, Jim Patton, Tony Denikos, James von Lenz, Andrew Grimm, Bob Kannenberg and others. His songs have been recorded by Kemp, the Kinsey Report, Denikos, Koller, Mojo Filter, Patton and others.
