Join Baltimore Improv Group at The BIG Theater as we get ready for the final season and very LAST episodes ever of "Game of Thrones!!" There will be "Game of Thrones"-inspired improv, games, music and more at this comedy variety show.

Like the rest of our shows at BIG, "Winter is Here! A Game of Thrones Comedy Extravaganza" uses improv scenes created in the moment and adds in Game of Thrones trivia, games, and music as inspiration.

​Phil Stafford who you might know as a weekly performer with Training for Prom (every Friday at 9pm), co-produces the show. I wrote him to find out more about it.

“I became obsessed with Game of Thrones after reading all the books since I didn't have an HBO subscription,” Phil told me. “I of course eventually signed up for HBO (through my folks' account) and then proceeded to read all the theories and whatnot online.

Katie Long, a Baltimore native who joined the Baltimore Improv Group on her birthday in 2013, co-produces the show with Stafford. Long also performers weekly Training for Prom.

“I became somewhat obsessed with Game of Thrones after watching Phillip read the books," Katie shared. “Then, through actually seeing it for myself by watching the show - I became completely hooked! I am not a usual fan of fantasy, but this show is so good at world building and creating fascinating characters that you love to root for and against, that I can't help but love it.”

If you hadn't noticed the show is wildly popular, with Game of Thrones oreos, whiskey, and now improv comedy.

"It's an amazing show because while it is jam-packed with stories and characters it still hints at this greater world of unknowns," Phil continued. "Which is good because it will probably kill off all those characters and burn down those stories.”

Stafford and Long tell me that combining their love for local comedy and Game of Thrones makes perfect sense for new and long-time fans who love either comedy or the HBO series.

“You should come check out the Winter is Here: A Game of Thrones Improv Extravaganza because we make the cold bleak march to our doom fun and playful,” Phil said. “Also, there are only 6 episodes left so we need to wring every last drop from Westeros before it all burns or freezes. Plus we'll have songs, quizzes, prizes...magic?. CleganeBowl 2019!!!!!!!”
